Strolling along the shore is great in every season, while swimming and paddling are summertime favorites.

Four miles of sand beach stretch along Nahant Bay.

This 4-mile stretch of park is a combination of two reservations along the water— Lynn Shore and Nahant Beach. A paved promenade runs 2 miles, spanning the two reservations, at the edge of Nahant Bay. The area is quite busy, especially in summer, and with good cause—families can find a ton to do here. Ball fields, racquetball and tennis courts, and a tot lot near the park headquarters at Ward Bathhouse are just the beginning.

Of course, most people come to swim at Long Beach and King’s Beach, but kids also enjoy checking out the tide pools at Red Rock Park at low tide. Considering how developed the area is, it is surprising that a 1-mile-long system of fragile sand dunes runs parallel to Long Beach. Visit in colder months for a wintry walk that will give you an entirely different beach experience.

Interpretive programs and beach-related events are offered occasionally, so check at the park headquarters to see what’s going on. Concerts are held at Red Rock Park once or twice a week in summer.

Remember: In summer, the lot fills fast and parking is difficult to find. Plan to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Plan B:

Lynn Woods Reservation (Trip 34) is less than 4 miles away and is much farther off the beaten path than the beach is.

Where to Eat Nearby:

Some restaurants are near the last traffic circle and on the Lynnway.
