Duxbury Beach is a 6-mile-long barrier beach that extends from Marshfield in the north to Gurnet Point and Saquish in the south. The nonprofit Duxbury Beach Reservation owns about 4 miles of the beach and leases most of it to the Town of Duxbury for use by local residents and the general public.

The beach is a bit rocky in parts, so bring water shoes for children’s tender feet. It never really gets overcrowded at this beach, so you’ll have plenty of room to spread out, play games, and build sandcastles. Besides people, piping plovers also like to visit the beach. When it is low tide, kids will enjoy being able to walk quite far out to collect shells and rocks.

Remember: Make sure to go to the public parking area; the reservation parking area is for Duxbury residents only.

Plan B:

The Mass Audubon Society’s North Hill Marsh, also in Duxbury, is an 823-acre property that has lots of trails around a 90-acre pond.

Where to Eat Nearby:

A snack bar sells sandwiches and ice cream, while a restaurant serves dinner Thursday through Sunday. Both are open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
