Home to a former Massachusetts governor, Gore Place is a historic estate that features a restored mansion, a small farm with sheep, goats, and poultry, and beautiful ground to wander. Gore Place offers a number of family programs, including mansion and farm tours, sheep shearing festivals, music concerts, and full moon tours. You can rent backpacks that come with binoculars, magnifying glasses, and otehr goodies to help kids explore the grounds. Snowshoes are also available for rent in the winter. Check out thier website for fees, hours, and program information at goreplace.org.
If you are looking for a more casual family outing, feel free to wander the grounds on your own. There is a walking path with informational displays that walk you through the history of the open meadows and farmlands.
Plan B:For bad weather, check out goreplace.org to find out when mansion tours are available. Or, visit the Waltham Library, just a few minutes down the road on Main Street.
Where to Eat Nearby:There are a variety of kid-friendly restaurants located on Main Street and on Moody Street in downtown Waltham
