This 22-acre urban park is MBTA accessible and conveniently located.
Castle Island has something for everyone. Walk around the fort, play in the playground, take a walk out on the beautiful boardwalk that takes you from one end of the park over the water, or grab a bite to eat at Sullivan's concession stand. There is also swimming in the summer months. This 22-acre urban park is MBTA accessible and conveniently located. Bring your bikes and pedal along the bay. You can easily spend an hour or two at this park. Just be aware, it can can get pretty windy sometimes!
Plan B:Fort Independence, a pentagonal five-bastioned, granite fort built between 1834 and 1851, is the dominating feature of Castle Island.Fort Independence is open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, hours vary. Fort tours are conducted by the Castle Island Association in the summer months and there is interpretive signage for self-guided tours. If your plans fall apart last-minute, the Children's Museum is only 3 miles away.
