Family Adventure: Ski and Snowshoe the White Mountains

This program is designed for families in search of a winter experience packed with adventure, learning, and fun, all in a supportive and encouraging environment with other families. Our trip begins with an orientation session and overnight at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge. On the first full day we'll learn how to snowshoe, and AMC Guides will share tips and techniques on how to move through the snow and up and down hills, followed by a snowshoe hike on the trails in Pinkham Notch. The second day we'll offer Nordic skiing at beautiful Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. AMC Guides will lead ski tours on the groomed trails of Great Glen. Lessons will be available for anyone interested in learning or improving their skiing. Ski rentals are available at Great Glen. Throughout our days, Guides will point out and identify animal tracks as well as other natural history of the winter world creating an atmosphere of discovery and fun. The terrain is beginner to moderate and the pace will be comfortable with plenty of time to explore and learn. Recommended for families with children ages 8 and up. Program Highlights: Camaraderie of parents and children exploring winter together Professional winter guides unlocking the tips to safe, enjoyable winter adventures Outdoor clinics, winter dress for safety and comfort Multi-sport winter sampler from snowshoeing to groomed cross-country ski trails Cross-country lessons and equipment rental packages available from the experts at Great Glen Trails Nordic Center at an additional cost Evening gatherings and social time in mountain lodge at the base of Mt Washington Opportunity to spot animal tracks and unique winter natural history. Although we do our very best to adhere to the schedules listed above, these itineraries are subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control including weather and terrain conditions. This can include changes in the schedule, trails listed and activities mentioned.

Take the Inside Outside: Bring out your kids’ blocks, dolls, or other traditionally indoor toys and set up a play space outside. Getting out of a routine can be entertaining.
