Get Moving with the Boston Children’s Museum
August 2, 2013

This is the Boston Children’s Museum centennial year and it’s been celebrating with a slew of events since April, including bringing the fun to various neighborhoods. The Big Cake Birthday Tour has museum staff leading activities and games meant to inspire movement and health. And they’re bringing a giant inflated cake and milk bottle along with them!

A series of fun physical challenges, developed in consultation with leading fitness and nutrition experts, includes using a pedometer to track how much you move as you visit stations like “Strength in Numbers” (challenging participants to hold a pose),”Twist and Shout” (taking your hoop game to the next level), and “Tag Hacking” (variations on classic tag games).

This Friday, August 2, the museum will celebrate its birthday with free admission, games, a teddy bear picnic and other activities. The culmination of the year’s events is the “Power of Play” gala weekend October 4 to 6, with a dance party, a music festival, visual and performing arts, science activities, kids Olympics, a children’s gala and a birthday ceremony around Fort Point Channel. There will be a giant inflatable birthday cake towed into the Fort Point Channel, and everyone will sing “Happy Birthday” and blow out the candles.
