This historic home was once the country residence of Boston's prominent Lyman family. In addition to the house, the estate offers 37 acres of grounds to explore, along with greenhouses, a carriage house, and gardener's cottage. The greenhouse and historic house were wonderful to walk around (see the Lyman Estate website for guided home and greenhouse tour information.) The kids loved smelling the flowers.

Plan B:

Across the street is the Thomas Payne Estate, which has a wonderful trail system.

The green houses are a nice treat during the cold days of winter. They are moist and warm and the flowers can really cheer you up. Wear layers, you will want to take several off while inside! The house may seem small after a season of Downton Abbey, but its still impressive. Its not open for many hours, but a peek in the windows was fun. Not a lot in the way of trails. For that go just up the street to the Stonehurst Estate.
