Overview

Ring in the New Year early with small group of AMC Families at Cardigan High Cabin for a night! Hike in two miles with 1450' elevation gain. The cabin is just under half a mile from the summit of Mt. Cardigan (3,155') w/great views. The cabin is toasty warm with the wood stove, but you will need winter gear and a warm sleeping bag regardless (winter will have set in :) Winter hiking is awesome with cool temperatures, no bugs and all the views (no leaves)! High Cabin was built in 1931 and renovated in 2004 with 12 new bunks w/mattresses (no pillows) in the main room and new roof, wood stove, and Clivus composting toilet. There is a dry sink and two burner propane stove for cooking. There is no electricity or running water. Trip best for kids 6 years and older. We'll celebrate the New Years early with lots of smiles and camaraderie! For questions contact Jeanne Blauner, jablauner@comcast.net, 978-202-5606.

Tip of the Day

Make tree bark and leaf rubbings: Hold a piece of paper to the trunk of a tree with rough bark (or put on top of a fallen leaf placed on a hard surface), then rub with the side of a crayon. The pattern of the bark or leaf will appear on the page.
